Benedict Cumberbatch recently received his first Oscar nomination for his portrayal of genius mathematician code breaker Alan Turing for the critically-acclaimed movie,The Imitation Game.
Cumberbatch is the son of British actors, Wanda Ventham and Timothy Carlton. The actor is very proud to inform his parents of this career achievement.
According to ABC news, "So excited and honoured to receive this recognition. It's wonderful to be included by the Academy in this exceptional year of performances. To ring my parents who are both actors and tell them that their only son has been nominated for an Oscar is one of the proudest moments of my life."
From the recent Golden Globes, the 38-year-old actor lost to fellow British actor Eddie Redmayne for the coveted Best Actor in Drama Award.
Last year, Cumberbatch won the Best Actor award from the Emmy's for his portrayal of the iconic Sherlock Holmes for the BBC series Sherlock. The series catapulted Cumberbatch to worldwide fame and is followed by millions of fans, calling themselves, Cumberbitches.
Apart from that, Cumberbatch was chosen by Marvel to portray Doctor Steven Strange in 2016's film adaptation of the comic book wizard, Doctor Strange.
The actor's personal life is also flourishing as after announcing his engagement to theater director, Sophie Hunter, the couple are expecting their first child!
Cumberbatch had been on a roll for 2014 and will further continue to 2015 as he will star alongside Johnny Depp, playing his brother in the upcoming action crime-drama film written and directed by Scott Cooper, based on the 2001 book Black Mass: The True Story of an Unholy Alliance Between the FBI and the Irish Mob.
