Yaya DaCosta plays Whitney Houston in in the Lifetime biopic 'Whitney' and the expectations were high for a great original film. The drama covers those five years after she was introduced to her husband, Bobby Brown. Their chemistry is great and you can see that they carry the same attitude and enjoy the same kind of humor as well. Well, it could be troubling for Houston fans to know that it is Whitney who led them into drugs. She was already into recreational cocaine, and when she offers to her Mr. Right then he denies her request.
The Houston family isn't very supportive of her engagement with Brown and that is what sets the ball rolling. It is astonishing to note that they don't have any issue with Houston's drug use. There is a moment of sympathy for Whitney that when she seemed to own the world, the same world was also crushing her.
Directed by Angela Bassett, "Whitney" merges compelling and focuses chiefly on her relationship with Bobby Brown. It however ends well before her untimely death at age 48. The movie benefits from the talent of Yaya DaCosta, who carries the power to bring a star quality even to a thin material. It is the performance, which speaks volumes about her talent.
Watch the movie to see the pop diva, then 26, how she quickly falls into a relationship that gets sexual within no time. Bobby is seen talking about long-term commitment while her family is not at all happy about the union. The duo's love gets further tested by the overpowering stardom of Whitney and how Brown is spoken as "Mr. Houston."
You see only half the story about Houston in "Whitney" that ends with her tragic end in 2012.
