The world of social media is wonderful most of the time as it helps connect people closer, may they be celebrities to normal folks but sometimes it goes beyond of our usual capacity and Lena Dunham recently reached her tipping point.
The Girls actress reportedly told Ryan Seacrest during the Red Carpet at the Golden Globes that she left Twitter, "I deleted Twitter because I wanted to create a safer space for myself emotionally. People threaten my life and tell me what a cow I am," Hollywood Reporter quotes. She further adds that though she would check it on occasions, it's not the same anymore.
Dunham didn't even held back on sharing what types of comments she receives from the social media site such as she should "be under a pile of trash," New York Post quotes, but further adds that she could very well do without such people in her life.
The cause of several of these comments were due to the release of her book "Not that Kind of Girl" wherein several of these users claimed that what she had written were all lies. Some of these included her accounts of rape to acting inappropriately with her sister. "It's a very, very painful thing to share an episode that personal and receive criticism. But what I received was only a small percentage of the doubt and victim blaming that most women who are sexually assaulted in this country experience. You know, I am a celebrity with a platform and a lot of incredible support. Most women who come forward with accusations of sexual assault don't have those benefits - don't have my legal and emotional and financial supports...I really feel like it enhanced my understanding of the cause, and will hopefully make me a better advocate and activist in the future," MTV quotes Dunham.
Though she had not taken down the account, she had taken the social media app off of her phone. Currently, her Twitter account is being managed by her assistant.
Dunham wore a scarlet Zac Posen gown to the Golden Globes. Notably, the designer used to be her childhood baby sitter.
