Common and John Legend won the award for 'Best Original Song' on Sunday night (Jan 11) at the 2015 Golden Globe Awards held at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, Calif. They recorded the song "Glory" from the new civil-rights movie Selma. When accepting the award, Common gave an impassioned speech, which you can check out above.
"The first day I stepped on the set of Selma, I began to feel like this was bigger than a movie. As I got to know the people of the Civil Rights movement," Common said in his acceptance speech. "I realize I am the hopeful black woman who was denied her right to vote. I am the caring white supporter killed on the front lines of freedom. I am the unarmed black kid who maybe needed a hand but instead was given a bullet. I am the two fallen police officers murdered in the line of duty."
Common and John won the category up against Lana Del Rey, Lorde, Patti Smith and Sia.
Selma was up for a total of four Golden Globes for 2015.
