Universal Pictures' Trainwreck, an ensemble comedy film, is scheduled for release to US theaters on July 17. Created by stand-up comedienne Amy Schumer who will also be making her debut in a starring role in the film, Trainwreck is directed by Judd Apatow, who is also her co-writer for the screenplay.

Schumer joins an ensemble cast that boasts the likes of Tilda Swinton, Bill Hader, Brie Larson, Colin Quinn, Barkhad Abdi, Mike Birbiglia, Jon Glaser, Vanessa Bayer, John Cena, Ezra Miller, LeBron James, Method Man, Norman Lloyd, Jim Norton, Daniel Radcliffe, and Marisa Tomei. Principal photography began on May 19 and ended on August. Jon Brion will be doing the musical scoring for the film. Trainwreck director Apatow, who is best known for his work in comedy films and comedy TV shows, is also producing through his Apatow Productions.

While plot details are being kept under wraps, the New York Times hints that it is "a story plumbed heavily from Ms. Schumer's life, about a commitment-averse woman trying to get past her self-sabotaging ways."

Bill Hader, who plays the would-be Mr. Right for the "commitment-averse woman" in the story described the collaboration between Schumer and Apatow as "the perfect melding." He told New York Times: "Judd's interested in comedy and sadness and people self-sabotaging and the messiness of life, and Amy is interested in the same." Apatow himself added: "There's a moment early in someone's career where they will kill and die for what they're writing about. That's why sometimes these first movies are the best ones. Because people never have this level of commitment again."

Schumer is presently also the star, writer and executive producer of her own TV show, Inside Amy Schumer, a sketch comedy series that is now on its third season at the Comedy Central channel.
