Angie seems to be in a roll when it comes to meeting famous icons and this time it's Pope Francis. Recently, the A-lister flew to the Vatican to host a special screening of her highly anticipated film, Unbroken. Though the pope couldn't be present on the screening itself, Jolie still managed to meet up with the religious leader after the screening at the Apostolic Palace.
The film was screened at Casina Pio IV, the headquarters of the Pontifical Academy of Sciences and Pontifical Academy of Social Sciences.
According to a statement quoted by Us Weekly from Universal Pictures, Jolie said that "To be invited to screen 'Unbroken' at the Vatican is an honor and a tribute to Louie's legacy as a man of faith and someone who exemplified the power of forgiveness and the strength of the human spirit. The story of the hero Louis (Zamperini) is a great example of strength and forgiveness."
Universal Pictures Italia further adds that "Pope Francis, aware of the incredible life story of Louis Zamperini, graciously welcomed the opportunity to view the film and is expected to attend the screening at the Casina Pio IV, headquarters of the Pontifical Academy of Sciences and Pontifical Academy of Social Sciences," US Today quotes.
Jolie was accompanied by her daughters Shiloh and Zahara and co-hosted the screening with Luke Zamperini.
This isn't the first time Jolie gets to be up and close with a leader of the people. Two months before her meet with the Pope, she was given the title of Honorary Dame Grand Cross of the Most Distinguished Order of St Michael and St George by Britain's Queen Elizabeth II at Buckingham Palace for her advocacy against sexual violence and her contributions to the foreign policy of the U.K.
Unbroken is a film based on the life of World War II hero and Olympian, Louis Zamperini.
