Gotham Season 1 returns with Rogues’ Gallery

Gotham returns Monday, January 5, at 8:00 p.m. on Fox with its 11th episode entitled "Rogues' Gallery." According to the network's official synopsis, it will have Detective Gordon reporting for his new assignment at the newly re-opened Arkham Asylum. His first day at his new post gets off to a rocky start when the murder of a guard ignites an investigation, leading him to meet Dr. Leslie Thompkins (guest star Morena Baccarin). Meanwhile, Cobblepot continues to build his own private army of rogues and criminals.

The show's regular cast will be back with Ben McKenzie as Detective James Gordon, Donal Logue as Harvey Bullock, Jada Pinkett Smith as Fish Mooney, Sean Pertwee as Alfred, Robin Lord Taylor as Oswald Cobblepot/The Penguin, Erin Richards as Barbara Kean, David Mazouz as Bruce Wayne, Camren Bicondova as Selina Kyle/the future Catwoman, Zabryna Guevara as Captain Sarah Essen, Cory Michael Smith as Edward Nygma/the future Riddler, Victoria Cartagena as Renee Montoya, Andrew Stewart Jones as Crispus Allen, and John Doman as Carmine Falcone.

For episode 11, Baccarin will be joined by other guest stars which will include Drew Powell as Butch Gilzean, David Zayas as Maroni, Allyce Beasley as Dorothy Duncan, Isiah Whitlock Jr. as Gerry Lang, Kyle Massey as Mackey, Christopher Heyerdahl as Jack Gruber, Kevin McCormick as Aaron Helzinger, and Anthony Grasso as Ganza.

Dr. Leslie Thompkins, the character Baccarin portrays in the upcoming episode, is a friend and ally of Thomas and Martha Wayne who later becomes a confidant of Batman in the original DC comic book series. However, in the TV adaptation, Baccarin in an interview with IGN said: "They're not sticking too close to the original mythology from the comics. Basically she and Jim meet at Arkham Asylum where he winds up working after the last episode. And they sort of hit it off because they're both two people who are trying to do the right thing in a city that's corrupt. And, like him, she's someone who doesn't really stand for bullshit. She's very pragmatic and isn't fazed by the craziness of Gotham. So they're pretty drawn to each other and they wind up teaming up."

About the asylum itself, The Homeland alumni revealed: "It's a little comic book-y, for sure. It's stylized, in the way that a lot of things are in the Gotham world. It's an insane asylum, so it's dark. It's very shadowed and creepy. I really loved the episode. It's a great introduction to my character, who's working in this crazy crazy place that's, of course, touched by Gotham's rampant corruption. There's a very big and dark underworld at play. "
