The Conjuring 2: A scarier sequel that led the Warrens to travel to England

The sequel to 2013's scariest film, The Conjuring, which grossed six times more from the initial budget of $20 million, is about to unfold as director James Wan preps for a 2016 release date.

After directing Furious 7, he was offered to reprise his directorial duties with Insidious 3, but due to conflicts with The Conjuring 2, he passed on the throne to Leigh Whannell.

New Line Cinema has a plot in development for the sequel and will have Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga reprise their characters portraying real-life couple and paranormal investigators, Ed and Lorraine Warren.

The case file they're looking at occurs in the late '70s and centers on two sisters in Enfield, England, who were allegedly possessed. Warren said she personally saw them levitate and even saw one of the sister dematerialize in front of her only to be found 20 minutes later stuffed into an oversized fuse box, contorted in such an unnatural way that they couldn't have replicated it if they tried. She also said that the demon spoke directly to her husband on many occasions. Warren cited this case as one of the most terrifying experiences of her career.

The film will be titled The Conjuring 2: The Enfield Poltergeist and will dwell on the real-life accounts of single mother Margaret Hodgson and her four children who are experiencing severe poltergeist hauntings.

The Conjuring 2: The Enfield Poltergeist is expected to come out in theaters on June 2016.
