"The Comeback" Season 2 finale on HBO aired on Sunday night (Dec 28) and Kellen Lutz made a surprise appearance. The 29-year-old actor returned in his role of Chris MacNess, who he played in Season 1 in 2005. Other stars appearing on the finale include Malin Akerman in her role from the first season and Brad Goreski as himself.
Kellan is major movie star and he reveals to Valerie Cherish (Lisa Kudrow) that he's had a crush on her for the past ten years and he tries to get her to sleep with him.
"It's crazy because he was like 20 when we first shot and he has grown so much. And oh god, he's so good looking, it's sort of arresting," Lisa told E! Online about working with Lutz. "When you see him in person it's sort of like, 'WHOA WHAT? Who's that walking toward me with a smile and making eye contact?! For me? What? For me? Oh my god.'"
Official finale synopsis: After a hellish day leading up to the Emmys, Valerie enters the ceremony to learn Mark did not accept her invitation to attend. Just as the telecast begins, she receives a text from Mark that Mickey has collapsed at home and has been rushed to the hospital, so she darts out of the Emmy ceremony and away from Jane's cameras for the first time. At the hospital, she learns Mickey will be okay and finds him in good spirits. Mark arrives at the hospital, shocked and happy to see Valerie there without a camera crew, and together the three of them watch on television as Valerie is announced as the winner of the Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy.
After a nine year hiatus, HBO brought back the series "The Comeback" starring Lisa Kudrow. "The Comeback" only ran for one season back in 2005, but executives said at the summer press tour of the Television Critics Association in Los Angeles that they never forgot the short-lived show.
The HBO original, documentary-style show starred Kudrow as actress Valerie Cherish who was attempting to stage a career comeback by allowing reality TV cameras to follow her as she was cast on a sitcom.
From HBO's standpoint, "it just felt like the right time for us and for these guys," said the EVP of programming Casey Bloys. "I think HBO is in a different place than it was nine years ago, and we had the room to bring it back. The future of the network doesn't depend on this show... Everybody was just ready."
Kudrow shared about the show gaining a new audience, "younger people already know about it and have already seen it. It's fully appreciated ... and they didn't see it nine years ago." You can watch "The Comeback" first season one on HBO Go currently and they will re-air the first season prior to Season 2's premiere.
"We're just really grateful that we get to pick it up again," Kudrow admitted. "We just loved doing it so very much ... we were both so thrilled, overjoyed, Michael's already overworked, but he said 'we have to, because we can't not have this experience again.'"
