Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens is the first of the third trilogy in the Star Wars epic space saga. Chronologically, it is set 30 years after the Battle of Endor, the death of Darth Vader and the other events which transpired during Episode VI: Return of the Jedi. It will have the original cast of the first trilogy reprising older versions of their previous roles. Harrison Ford once more returns to the screen as "Han Solo," Carrie Fischer as "Princess Leia Organa," Mark Hamill as "Luke Skywalker," Peter Mayhew as "Chewbaca," Kenny Baker as "R2-D2," and Anthony Daniels as "C-3PO."
Aside from the original lead actors of the first trilogy, other confirmed members of the cast of the upcoming episode of Star Wars include Daisy Ridley, Lupita Nyong'o, John Boyega, Max Von Sydow, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis and Domhnall Gleeson, Gwendoline Christie, Christina Chong along with Crystal Clarke and Pip Andersen.
The first trilogy in the space saga is comprised of Episode IV: A New Hope, Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back and Episode VI: The Return of the Jedi. Between the first and the now forthcoming third trilogy, there was a second trilogy, the so-called prequel trilogy, which consisted of Episode I: The Phantom Menace, Episode II: Attack of the Clones and Episode III: Revenge of the Sith plus and animated full-feature film, Star Wars: The Clone Wars.
Star Wars Episode VII was directed by J.J. Adams based on a screenplay he co-wrote with Lawrence Kadan. Star Wars creator George Lucas served as creative consultant. Filming wrapped up November of this year and the project is now under post-production work. Plans for the sequels have already been approved and set in motion. In June, it was announced that Rian Johnson will write and direct Star Wars Episode VIII. He will also write, and possibly direct as well, Star Wars Episode IX according to Deadline. Ram Bergman will be producing both Star Wars VIII and IX. Actress Daisy Ridley who will play a lead role in Star War VII will be reprising her character in the next two films in the new trilogy.
Star Wars Episode VII is scheduled for release to theaters on December 18, 2015, still a long wait ahead for the fans. Yet, the web is already abuzz with discussions about therumored plot and some purported spoilers. For instance, Devin Faraci at Badass Digest writes: "[the] plot of Episode VII is an echo of A New Hope [Star Wars IV]. Instead of R2 coming to Tatooine it's a hand falling from the sky [Luke Skywalker's], but the basic sweep of the story is similar, and intentionally so." According to his account, Luke Skywalker's severed hand gripping a light saber will be discovered by the new characters who will be the heroes in the new trilogy. One is portrayed by Daisy Ridley, the other by John Boyega. Recognizing the severed hand with the light saber as a Jedi relic, the two decide to return it to the proper people, going on a quest that takes them to Han Solo and Chewbaca. Han and Chewie on finding out that the hand belonged to Luke, decides to look for their long lost missing Jedi Master friend, taking along for the ride Ridley's and Boyega's characters.
Da7e at Latino-Reviews, for another, suggests there will be a fight to the death towards the film's ending between Luke and Han over whether or not the character played by Adam Driver, rumored to be the main baddie who also happens to be Han's son, will live or die. The Mirror also reports that someone using the handle 'Spoiler Man' in theweb forum '4Chan' who claims to be a Lucasfilm employee has been posting revealing details such as, that Chewbaca will be sporting a robotic arm, Han Solo and Princess Leia will have been married, and Andy Serkis will portray a very old, very powerful alien Sith.
