Taylor Swift ends 2014 on a high note remaining No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 for the sixth straight week with "Blank Space." This becomes her longest streak at No. 1 with "Shake It Off" being No. 1 for four weeks and "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together" spending three weeks at the top back in 2012.
Hozier's "Take Me to Church" spends its third week at number 2. Mark Ronson's "Uptown Funk!" (featuring Bruno Mars) is remaining in the third spot on the chart. Ed Sheeran's "Thinking Out Loud" is fourth and Meghan Trainor's "Lips Are Movin" is fifth.
Swift keeps breaking new ground with her new album 1989. She has become the first female artist in the history of the Billboard Hot 100 Singles Chart to replace herself at the No. 1 spot.
Swift's new single "Blank Spaces" rose from No. 13 to No. 1 to replace her initial smash single "Shake It Off". She becomes the first woman in the Hot 100′s 56-year history to do this and the 10th act to do so overall, following the Beatles, who scored three toppers in a row ("I Want to Hold Your Hand," "She Loves You" and "Can't Buy Me Love") in 1964; Boyz II Men (1994); Puff Daddy (as he was then billed) (1997); Ja Rule (2002); Nelly (2002); OutKast (2004); Usher (2004); T.I. (2008); and the Black Eyed Peas (2009). (Puff Daddy and Ja Rule each doubled up thanks to a lead and featured role.)
With "Shake It Off" and "Black Space," Swift is the only artist with two Hot 100 No. 1s this year. It is also a rare honor for the first two singles of an album to top the Hot 100.
Taylor Swift's 1989 album was No. 1 for a third straight week on the Billboard 200 chart. This is only the second album to spend three weeks on top of the list, the other being the Frozen soundtrack, which was on top for 13 nonconsecutive weeks.
Amazingly, with all of her success, "Black Space" only gives her three No. 1 songs with "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together" off of her previous RED album being her first. Most would have assumed that she had a No. 1 song before her RED album.
