SNL alumnus Kristen Wiig was at the show's Christmas episode where she was seen crashing into guest host Amy Adam's spot just as she was delivering her "We Need A Little Christmas" monologue. Adams then went on to remind Wiig that this wasn't the first time she was "interrupted" by the Bridesmaids star while she was hosting for the show. Back in 2008, the two did "What a Feeling" from Broadway's Wicked musical changing the lyrics to "and I will be loathing, loathing you my whole life long!" This time around, the two again exchanged lines from popular Christmas carols but with funnily edited lyrics.
In another segment of the show, she appeared with fellow SNL alumnus Fred Armisen to reprise their "Garth and Kat on Update" routine. In their characters as the musical duo Garth and Kat, Wiig and Armisen talk about their brand new Hanukah album with "Weekend Update" anchor Michael Che, making up the songs on their supposed new upcoming record on the spot.
Wiig debuted on SNL on November 12, 2005, and made her last appearance as a regular cast member on May 19, 2012. She has been nominated for her work on SNL for a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series in 2009, 2010, 2011, and 2012. Aside from Garth, some of the other characters she played in the SNL segments and sketches include Penelope, a neurotic attention-seeker; Dooneese Maharelle on the Lawrence Welk show; Mindy Grayson in the Secret Word sketches; Gilly, a mischievous schoolgirl; Sue, who can't control her excitement over surprises; The Target Lady, a clerk at the chain store and kitsch collector; Shanna, a sexy woman whose actions and stories gross people out; Cheryl Bryant, a TV game show host who gives away big prizes and is always more excited about the prize than the winners are; Judy Grimes, a nervous travel agent; Jacqueline Seka, predatory host of the Cougar Den; and Aunt Linda, a hard-to-please movie critic. She also caricatured real people like Taylor Swift, Bjorke, Kathie Lee Gifford, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, socialite Kris Jenner, and, back in February when she guest starred, even Harry Stiles of the boy band One Direction.
Incidentally, One Direction was also in SNL's Christmas episode during which they performed their "Ready to Run" and "Night Changes" numbers.
At the SNL's after-show party later, Harry Styles, 20, and Wiig, 41, treated their colleagues and the fans by gamely jumping on a table top dancing to the tune of the Dirty Dancing hit song "(I've Had) The Time of My Life."
