British actor Idris Elba may just become the next James Bond. As gathered by Digital Spy, Sony company's co-chairman Amy Pascal, in one of her leaked emails, allegedlytold Elizabeth Cantillon, former executive vice president of production for Columbia Pictures, which distributes the Bond franchise, that "Idris should be the next Bond."
Elba in an interview back in September 2011 told NPR that if he were offered the role, he'd "not only get in the cab but [I]'d take the taxi driver out of the car, hostage. The taxi, jump out while it was moving, jump onto a pedal bike that was just past the door as I got on it, and then get onto a plane - on the wing - land on top of Sony Studios, slide through the air conditioning, and land in the office." He said: "I'd definitely consider it."
But what of Daniel Craig, the sixth and incumbent James Bond? In an interview he did for Rolling Stone back in 2012, he was quoted by The Daily Beast as having said: "I've been trying to get out of this from the very moment I got into it. But they won't let me go, and I've agreed to do a couple more, but let's see how this one does, because business is business and if the shit goes down, I've got a contract that somebody will happily wipe their ass with."
Craig is currently filming Spectre, his fourth performance as James Bond and the twenty-fourth in the Bond franchise film series. He has previously portrayed M16 Agent 007 in Skyfall (2012), Quantum of Solace (2008) and Casino Royale (2006). Spectre is scheduled to show in theaters beginning November 6, 2015.
If Elba does become the next actor to portray James Bond, he would be following the footsteps of Craig, Pierce Brosnan, Timothy Dalton, Roger Moore, George Lazenby and Sean Connery.
