Robert Downey Jr will still reprise his iconic Iron Man role, but not as a solo movie according to sources. After the Avengers: Age of Ultron, his last reprisal of Tony Stark would be on the third installment of Captain America alongside Chris Evans. This will mark as his 6th portrayal of the said Marvel hero.

"They do have a plan, and I think they're going to announce - they're very secretive about it," he was quoted by The Guardian as saying. When asked whether he will return, he responded with the following: "Just between us, no - but I'm going to do other stuff with Marvel. I'm still going to be involved with Marvel and there's going to be plenty of other fun stuff," according to LatinoPost.

Rumors are spreading that Iron Man 4 will be starred in by a different actor. Among the choices are Mark Wahlberg, Mad Men star Jon Hamm, Guardians of the Galaxy's Lee Pace, American Sniper and Academy Award nominee Bradley Cooper and Oscar winner Jamie Foxx.

Wahlberg had expressed interest in the role if Downey is no longer attached and if Marvel will ask him to.

Hamm, being the ladies man that he is, is another possible contender. News of him playing Iron Man had circulated the internet last year and was determined it was just an April Fool's prank.

Pace, Cooper and Foxx are all possible candidates to take the throne from Downey.

But the most surprising candidate being considered on for the role is child actor Ty Simpkins. He was the little boy sidekick of Tony Stark in the previous Iron Man movie. Marvel is said to be eyeing for a 2019 release date which would allow time for the child actor to bulk up as he will be turning 18 by then.
