Pan movie news, updates: Hugh Jackman, is that you?
Fans hardly recognized the X-Men and Les Miserables actor in the trailer for the newest movie adaptation of J.M. Barrie's classic tale.
Sporting a quirky beard, a meticulously maintained mustache, a pale face and sunken eyes, Jackman veers away from being the hero and will be playing the film's villain, Blackbeard.
Set during the Second World War, Pan is an origins story, featuring a time long before Hook became bad and Peter Pan became the Boy Who Never Grew Up. Pan is written by Jason Fuchs and directed by Jo Wright, whose body of work includes Anna Karenina in 2012, Hanna in 2011, and Atonement in 2007.
Garrett Hedlund stars as the young Hook, who portrays the character with a very convincing American accent. Rooney Mara portrays the princess Tiger Lily. The production team's choice to cast a Caucasian female to portray a Native American woman sparked controversy earlier this year. Also joining the Pan cast are Amanda Seyfried and supermodel Cara Delevingne, who has a quick cameo in the trailer as a mermaid.
The trailer begins with a very young Peter, played by Levi Miller, being raised in an orphanage; his mother has promised to see him "in this world or another."
One night, Peter is whisked away and shipped off to Neverland on a giant floating ship that sails through the clouds, setting the wheels in motion for adventure and mischief.
Pan movie release is set for July 17, 2015.
