'Zoolander 2' Starring Ben Stiller Confirms Penelope Cruz as Co-Star For Sequel, Will Ferrell Returning as Mugatu
More Zealander 2 news is coming out and Penelope Cruz is signed on to co-star with Ben Stiller for the sequel.
Zoolander fans have been wondering for over a decade now if a sequel would be coming for the comedy classic. The original movie starred Ben Stiller as Derek Zoolander, who also directed the film. Will Ferrell also co-starred as Mugatu and is expected to return for the sequel, along with Owen Wilson.
"Yeah, we've got a script for the sequel, and we've just been in talks again," the actor told Vulture. "We're trying to sharpen it and hone it and, actually, I don't want to jinx anything, but it looks like it actually might be starting to get up and running."
Will Ferrell told JoBlo.com that that he will be apart of the movie and things are coming along with it. "We are actually supposed to do a read-through of a sequel script soon, and Mugatu is a part of it."
Justin Theroux is scheduled to write the script for Zoolander 2. He co-wrote and starred in Tropic Thunder (2008) with Stiller, and contributed to the script of Zoolander 2. His current commitment is to the HBO series The Leftovers and would likely prevent him from directing the film.
"I don't think I'm going to do it anymore," he shared. "It really depends on whether the show gets picked up. If it gets picked up, then I don't think I'll have the time to do it. So it'll probably get handed to Ben, which would be awesome."
"[N]ow I'm back full-time to dedicate time toward doing it," he said. "I met with Ben [Stiller] a couple times when I was in New York doing 'The Leftovers,' and then I'm meeting again with him probably in September."
What do you guys think about Zoolander 2 happening and having Penelope Cruz on board to co-star?
