Amanda Bynes was accused of shoplifting on Wednesday afternoon.

Following her Los Angeles DUI and New York City engagement announcement, the troubled young star reportedly attempted to steal a $200 hat from Barneys New York.

"Bynes was nabbed by security guards at Barneys on Madison Ave. after she tried to leave without paying," TMZ reported on Oct. 8. "Law enforcement sources tell us she put on a $200 hat and walked out of the store ... security nabbed her outside."

Once outside, security guards caught up with Bynes and brought her back into the store. During questioning, Bynes was "acting crazy," according to witnesses. Although four police officers eventually arrived to Barneys, the store's security team had already let her go.

TMZ claimed Bynes told security guards she was "being chased by fans" inside the store and opted to grab a hat in attempt to cover up her face. Bynes claimed she had no intension of stealing the hat.

While no arrests were made, Bynes was forced to sign a no-trespass agreement, which banned her from returning to the store.

In a second TMZ report, a source alleged Bynes did want to purchase the $200 hat, but was unable because her purse and wallet had been left with her car service. When she attempted to leave the store (with the hat on) in an attempt at finding her driver, security chased her down and forced her to return.

Although Bynes hasn't directly commented on the story, she did take to Twitter days ago, where she claimed the tabloids were out to get her.

"Don't believe anything the tabloids are saying about me," she wrote. "They dislike me for some odd reason & they continue to insult me everyday."
