A shocking non-medical revelation has been revealed regarding Joan Rivers' unexpected death.

As news of Melissa Rivers' plans to sue over her mother's untimely death hit the web, it was reported that Joan's ear, nose and throat doctor, who remains unidentified, took a selfie in the procedure room while she was under anesthesia.

"It's becoming very clear to Melissa and experts she has spoken to that her mother didn't have to die. This was a routine endoscopy that went wrong. Melissa has also been told that staff members at Yorkville Endoscopy revealed a shocking detail to medical investigators looking into Joan's death - something occurred during the procedure that wasn't medically related," a source told Radar Online on Sept. 16.

A Sept. 16 report by CNN revealed the non-medical "something" which occurred was the selfie.

Melissa plans to sue Yorkville Endoscopy, Dr. Lawrence Cohen and the female ear, nose and throat doctor, who was unauthorized to perform the fatal procedure, Radar Online revealed.

"Melissa will await the outcome of the official medical investigation and then absolutely file the lawsuits," the source said. "She won't be doing it for the money. She wants to make sure this doesn't happen to anyone else."

The 81-year-old Fashion Police co-host underwent cardiac arrest during a routine procedure at Yorkville Endoscopy in New York City. Later reports said the unauthorized doctor conducted a throat biopsy, which led to the star's death.

Joan died on Sept. 4 at Mount Sinai Hospital.
