Kesha is opening up about her life before rehab.
In the Aug. 2014 issue of Teen Vogue, the 27-year-old discussed the making of her 2012 album, Warrior, which was made several months prior to her seeking help for an eating disorder.
"Making my last record, Warrior, was a pretty miserable process, and it wore my spirit down," Kesha confessed in the interview, according to a June 25 report by Us Weekly. "I was fighting like hell to keep my whole irreverent essence and everything raw and visceral that I stand for in it, but in the end I was promoting something that wasn’t the animal I wanted it to be. I decided to face my problem head-on."
On Jan. 3, 2014, Kesha announced she was entering rehab to address an eating disorder. At the time she entered Timberline Knolls near Chicago (the same place Demi Lovato went to treat her issues), Kesha told press she would be unavailable for 30 days as she learned to love herself again. However, Kesha ultimately decided to remain at the facility for a total of 60 days.
After Kesha was admitted, reports surfaced, claiming her producer, Dr. Luke, was responsible for her body issues. In one particular report by TMZ, it was alleged that Dr. Luke told Kesha she looked "like a refrigerator" during a 2012 music video shoot. He denied the claims.
Now that she has completed rehab, Kesha is in a much better place and no longer consumed with achieving the "prettiness" that is often expected in Hollywood.
"I remember thinking, I don't want to be pretty," Kesha recalled. "Don't call me pretty."
