Joan Lunden has been diagnosed with cancer.

On Tuesday morning, Lunden appeared on Good Morning America, where she revealed she was suffering from breast cancer and opened up about her condition.

"I have covered many stories about breast cancer over the years but I never actually thought this would happen to me," Lunden said, according to a June 24 report by E! News. "I have shaped my career around health and wellness advocacy so it seemed natural to share my story. I've started chemotherapy and while I don't know how I'll look and feel down the road, I am assuming the best because that is how I live my life."

Lunden's diagnosis came during a yearly mammogram and despite the initial shock of hearing the doctor tell her, "You have breast cancer," Lunden said she was not afraid. Instead, she was focused on treatment, which will reportedly include a lumpectomy and radiation.

As she begins treatment, Lunden has the support of her husband, Jeff Konigsberg, whom she married on April 18, 2000, and her seven children, Jamie Beryl Krauss, Lindsay Leigh Krauss and Sarah Emily Krauss, from a previous marriage, and her children with Konigsberg, Max, Kate, Jack and Kimberly.

Lunden's diagnosis comes just months after Good Morning America co-host, Amy Robach, revealed she was suffering from breast cancer following an on-air mammogram late last year. GMA's Robin Roberts also went public about her struggles with cancer and the myelodysplastic syndrome it caused.

Following treatment, Lunden is expected to make a full recovery.
