Amy Van Dyken ATV Crash 2014: Olympic Swimmer Is In Intensive Care

Amy Van Dyken has reportedly been hospitalized after being involved in an all-terrain vehicle crash in Arizona. The Olympic swimmer was airlifted to the Scottsdale Healthcare Osborn Medical Center, where she remains in intensive care.

"David Van Dyken posted on Facebook that Amy, his sister, was airlifted to Osborn Medical Center after suffering an injury in the accident Friday in Show Low," AZ Central reported on June 9.

Van Dyken is an Olympic gold medalist, known for becoming the first American female in history to win 4 gold medals in a single Olympic games in Atlanta in 1996. In 2000, despite struggling with a shoulder injury, which left her sidelined for a year, Van Dyken won two additional Olympic gold medals, one in the 4×100 medley relay and a second in the 4×100 freestyle relay. Van Dyken is one of the few Olympians whose medals are all gold.

After retiring from swimming, Van Dyken, who has suffered from asthma since childhood, married former NFL punter, Tom Rouen. The pair currently split their time between Arizona and Colorado.

Van Dyken has worked in local radio and national radio for Fox Sports Radio.

Although no other details have been released in regard to Van Dyken's condition, the swimmer recently took to Instagram, where she shared a photo of some artwork made for her by family members.

"A drawing from my niece and nephew. They are so sweet. Made me smile," Van Dyken wrote on Instagram, along with the photo and the hash tag, "Hospitals Suck."
