Dean McDermott claimed to have attempted suicide during a recent episode of True Tori, but according to a new report, the drama was all for the ratings.
In a recent interview, a source spoke out, claiming Tori Spelling's husband never tried to kill himself, but was placed on a 5150 psychiatric hold at UCLA after a wild night of partying and using hallucinajenic drugs.
“Dean didn’t try to take his own life, nor did he threaten suicide," a source revealed to Radar Online on May 19. "Tori panicked after Dean had come home from a partying binge, and was obviously under the influence. He kept telling Tori he could fly, and she was afraid that Dean was going to try and do something crazy, so she sought help for him."
On Spelling and McDermott's documentary, currently airing on Lifetime, fans watched as McDermott claimed to have attempted suicide after his affair with 28-year-old Emily Goodhand was made public. During the episode, McDermott was seen speaking to his therapist, recalling a moment in which he contemplated jumping out of her office window.
So, if McDermott didn't really attempt suicide, why did he say he did? According to the source, the answer is all about the ratings for True Tori.
“It makes for a much better storyline that Dean tried to commit suicide,” the insider explained. “Whereas if it was just Dean’s hard core partying, it just wouldn’t have a significant impact."
The source also noted that because of McDermott's career, the pair was hesitant to expose McDermott's drug problems.
True Tori on airs Tuesdays at 10 p.m.
