The Real Housewives Of New York City may come to an end after the currently airing sixth season.
After getting off to a rough start in the ratings game for season six, the Bravo series continues to struggle, pulling in the lowest numbers since season one.
“Bravo executives are watching the numbers closely and they are definitely considering getting rid of the New York franchise,” a source close to production told Radar Online on May 1.
During the first episode, The Real Housewives of New York City pulled in a measly 1.3 million viewers. Since then, the ratings had been on a steady decline, reaching a series low of 1.2 million viewers during episode five. Then, during episode eight, the series showed a ratings jump, capturing 1.46 million viewers, but unfortunately for the show's remaining fans, that may not be enough to keep it on the air.
“The ladies just aren’t connecting with viewers and they need something major to happen to them,” the source explained.
While there is tons of drama going on with the cast off-screen, including Sonja Morgan's bankruptcy and Ramona Singer's husband's affair, the ladies' on-screen antics have been more tame.
Following season five, Bravo made a couple cast changes in hopes of revamping the show and seeing a ratings boost.
For season six, producers downgraded LuAnn de Lesseps' role on the show from official wife to friend of the wives, replacing her with the younger Kristen Taekman, a close friend of Brandi Glanville. However, the ratings weren't impacted in the way they had hoped.
