Peaches Geldof reportedly died from an overdose of heroin.
Fourteen years after her mother, Paula Yates, was found dead of a heroin overdose, it has been reported that Geldof met the same fate.
"The Times of London is reporting that an inquest being held today will hear Ms Geldof died from an overdose after becoming increasingly obsessed with her mother's death," The Sydney Morning Herald reported on May 1.
On Sept. 17, 2000, Geldof's sister Pixie's 10th birthday, her mother, Yates, was found dead at her Notting Hill home in London, England. By her side was her four-year-old daughter, Tiger Lily. Two months after her death, it was ruled that Yates' death was the result of "an unsophisticated taker of heroin" using drugs. If Yates had been an addict, the amount found in her blood wouldn't have been enough to kill her, but because she was not addicted to the drug, the amount taken ended her life.
In an interview with The Mirror, a source revealed that Geldof, who had previously struggled with drug addiction, may have gone to the "dark side" ahead of her April 7 death. According to the source, Geldof's relationship with her husband, Thomas Cohen, had become strained because of her ongoing turmoil over having to work but wanting to be at home with her sons. The source also stated that Geldof's relationship with her father, Bob Geldof, was on the rocks.
“Peaches had a dark side. Everyone knew that, including her family who have been through hell with her drug problems over the past decade," the source stated. “In the last few weeks she seemed overwhelmed. She always kept a lot of plates spinning with her work and finances. She was the main bread-winner and that put her under a lot of strain."
Days before her Geldof's death, her nanny, Anita Debney (who was one of the only constants in Geldof's life) posted an anti-drug video on her Facebook page which featured a young mother taking drugs. After Geldof had died, many suspected it to be Debney's way of warning the 25-year-old mother of two.
In a recent interview with Aga Living, Geldof spoke of her mother, telling the magazine that Yates was "living through me all the time because we are just so similar."
"I'm not sure I've yet fully made peace with my childhood, but with my mum I have come to terms with everything," she continued. "There are so many parallels between us. Now I can understand everything. I think you have to experience hardships and pain yourself to fully understand people who have been through it and also you can never really experience happiness unless you've had that down feeling too."
Geldof's final social media post was a photograph of her and her mother, which she captioned, "me and my Mum."
