Missy Robertson is opening up about her painful miscarriage in a new interview.
After welcoming two sons, Reed, now 18, and Cole, now 16, Missy became pregnant with her and her husband Jase's third child in 2002, but sadly, Missy lost the baby.
"I was about eight to 10 weeks along when I miscarried, just enough time to be excited about it and start telling everyone," Missy recalled to Closer Magazine, according to an April 30 report by the UK's Daily Mail. "I’d heard of tubal pregnancies for years, but didn’t really understand the mental anguish of actually having to go in and have someone remove what could’ve been your child."
At the time of her miscarriage, Missy was 30-years-old and felt that she may be unable to have more children in the future. Luckily, just three months later, she became pregnant with her daughter Mia. However, the pregnancy was not without complications.
Just 31-weeks into her pregnancy with Mia, Missy and Jase learned that their unborn daughter had a cleft lip.
"When Mia came out, I looked at her and thought, 'This is going to be rough,'" Jase admitted to the magazine. But after finding out that his daughter's capacity to breathe on her own may be at risk, his priorities immediately changed.
"I thought, why am I so upset about what she’s going to look like? I just wanted her to live," he explained.
Now 11-years-old, Mia has already undergone five operations and a "grueling" bone-graft earlier this year, but throughout everything, she and her family, including mom Missy and dad Jase, have remained united and grateful for one another.
