Gwenyth Paltrow and Chris Martin have separated after 10 years of marriage.

On Tuesday, the actress and her rocker beau announced the news in a joint statement.

"It is with hearts full of sadness that we have decided to separate," the statement read. "We have been working hard for well over a year, some of it together, some of it separated, to see what might have been possible between us, and we have come to the conclusion that while we love each other very much we will remain separate."

Paltrow and Martin met backstage at one of Martin's concerts with his band, Coldplay, in Oct. 2002, and on Dec. 5, 2003, they got married. Paltrow and Martin have two children together, daughter Apple Blythe Alison Martin, born in 2004, and son Moses Bruce Anthony Martin, born in 2006.

Despite their split, Paltrow and Martin remain committed to their family and claim to be "closer than we have ever been."

"We are parents first and foremost, to two incredibly wonderful children and we ask for their and our space and privacy to be respected at this difficult time," they continued. "We have always conducted our relationship privately and we hope that as we consciously uncouple and co-parent, we will be able to continue in the same manner."

Prior to the announcement, Paltrow and Martin, along with their two kids, boarded a plane and headed to the Bahamas where they remain.

This is the second tropical destination for the pair in recent months. Over the New Year's holiday, Paltrow and Martin spent time in Hawaii where they were photographed having what appeared to be an intense conversation on the beach.
