LeAnn Rimes' jaw popped out of place during a recent concert in Oklahoma, which led the singer to abruptly leave the gig.
Although Rimes completed her set, she typically performs an encore as well, but because of the placement of her jaw, Rimes left the stage and took to Twitter where she explained herself to fans.
"Oklahoma!!!! I love you so much! I'm sorry for no encore. I had my jaw pop out of place & I can't hear out of my left ear. #tmjsucks," Rimes wrote. A short time later, she added, "I had the best time tonight with my Oklahoma fans! I love y'all!"
For the last couple of years, Rimes has struggled with temporomandibular joint disorder (TMJ), which causes pain and dysfunction in the jaw joint. In summer 2012, Rimes underwent a handful of procedures for the condition and spoke about them on Twitter.
"Waiting on the endodontist to meet me and do a nighttime root canal," Rimes wrote in July. "This is one of the craziest things I've ever been through. Trying to keep my mind off the pain & what's about to happen by saying hi to you guys."
Around the same time, Rimes told fans, "O-M-G I got 3 shots in the roof of my mouth & 1 INSANE shot directly into the half dead half ALIVE nerve through the hole he drilled on the backside of my tooth."
Unfortunately, the procedures didn't help Rimes' condition and as a result, she filed a lawsuit against the dentist, claiming that he actually made things worse for her, which would impede her future performances and career.
In the Feb. 2013 filing, Rimes said she suffered "severe tooth pain, gum inflammation, and chronic gum bleeding," and that her "ability to perform as an artist has been and will continue to be significantly compromised until all re-treatment is complete."
In addition to undergoing eight root canals, Rimes also received bone grafting, physical therapy, a temporary bridge and a "permanent cosmetic deficiency."
During treatment, Rimes was reportedly forced to cancel several performances.
In her suit, Rimes was seeking monetary compensation for loss of earnings and future earnings, as well as damages for physical, emotional and psychiatric injuries.
