Chris Pine pleaded guilty to DUI in a New Zealand courtroom on Monday.
With his lawyer at his side, Pine entered a guilty plea at the Ashburton District Court and received a fine, as well as the suspension of his driver's license.
"[Pine] had his driver's license in the country suspended for six months and was slapped with a small fine of $93 New Zealand dollars, the equivalent of $79 USD," Us Weekly reported on March 17. "Pine was present for the Monday hearing, and Fairfax Media reported that the actor made no comments."
During the hearing, Pine's lawyer claimed he had suffered both professionally and emotionally after the incident and convinced the judge that he was "entirely remorseful." Upon leaving the court, Pine appeared to be in good spirits and signed a few autographs for fans.
In a statement regarding the incident, New Zealand Police claimed Pine was charged with DUI on March 1. He reportedly failed a Breathalyzer test with a blood-alcohol level of 1.1 percent, which is over the country's 0.08 limit.
It has also been reported that the actor was at a local pub with his girlfriend, Iris Bjork Johannesdottir, and several other members of the cast and crew of Z for Zachariah, prior to the arrest. During his pub visit, Pine allegedly consumed four vodka beverages before driving back to his hotel.
"It's a bummer," a friend of Pine's told Us Weekly of the charge. "He has no idea why they pulled him over… seems like he was just on the road too late."
According to the friend, Pine intended to return to Los Angeles over the weekend but was forced to stay in New Zealand to tend to his court date. "He still plans to be back in L.A. fairly soon. They aren't too worried about it."
