Russell Brandi is taking a break from his busy comedy tour after learning that his mother has been diagnosed with breast cancer for a second time.
In an effort to be by his mother's side during this difficult time, Brand has made the decision to cancel several upcoming performances.
On March 6, Brand tweeted to fans, letting them now of his canceled shows.
"Sorry to eff you around with gigs," he wrote. "My mum ain't well. Tix will be honoured or refunded."
Along with the message, Brand shared a link to an article the Warwick Arts Centre website which was titled, "CANCELLED: Tonight's Russell Brand Show," and let fans know that his March 6 show at the venue had been rescheduled for Apr. 19.
Brand was also scheduled to perform on March 7 at the Derby Assembly Rooms. That show will now take place on April 14.
Brand has two weekend performances, as well. They are scheduled to take place on Sat., March 8, and Sun, March 9, in Plymouth and London.
According to E! News, Brand's mother, Barbara, suffered from uterine cancer when Brand was eight-years-old, and one year later, was diagnosed with breast cancer for the first time.
In 2009, after reality star Jade Goody lost her battle to cancer, Brand wrote about Barbara's first diagnosis.
"When my Mum first got cancer I must've been around the age Jade's eldest son is now," Brand said. "Too young, in fact, to properly comprehend what was happening, only old enough to sense the tingling presence of fear, the averted looks, the stifled, thin lipped sympathy and muddled, neighbourly compassion."
