Simon Cowell was born to be a dad.

After welcoming son Eric on Feb. 14, Cowell has embraced fatherhood and is loving every minute of it -- even though he initially feared he may like his dogs more than his child.

During a March 5 interview, Cowell sat down with his former girlfriend, Extra correspondent Teri Seymour, gushing over his new addition and revealing the details surrounding his birth.

"I was born to be a dad!" Cowell told Seymour, adding that he almost missed the child's birth because he was in London filming the eighth season of Britain's Got Talent, which premieres on April 12, 2014.

“Phone rings at half past five in the morning, 'I’m about to give birth [said Lauren],' so we had to find a flight, which we did, and I got there with two hours to spare,” Cowell recalled. "I actually said to Lauren beforehand, 'What if I like the dogs more than him?' -- and she said, 'You're gonna be absolutely fine,' and then literally within seconds of him being born, I got it!"

After dating for nearly one year Cowell welcomed his first child, -who at birth weighed 6 pounds, 7 ounces- with Lauren Silverman (who is also mom to 7-year-old Adam, from a previous relationship), and named him Eric, after his late father who passed away in 1999 following a massive heart attack.

"I look at him, Eric, and I think of my dad all the time, so it's a really good thing,” he explained.

And although baby Eric is only 3-weeks-old, Cowell is already looking forward to giving him a brother or sister in the future -- maybe even two.

“I wouldn't rule out [more children]!" he said. "I had a brother when I was younger, so I kind of think it’s cool to have two or three… two.”
