Thandie Newton and husband Ol Parker have welcomed their third child.
Booker Jombe Parker, the couple's first son, was born to Newton on Monday, March 3, in an at home birth.
On Tuesday, the Rogue actress shared the happy news on Twitter.
"Our baby boy is finally here! Booker Jombe Parker," Newton tweeted. "Born joyously at home yesterday."
Then, on March 5, Newton spoke of her home birth.
"My 3rd home birth with brilliant independent midwife Caroline Flint - and Carole Goddard @PhoenixMidwives," she wrote. "Keep independent midwifery alive!"
She also mentioned Neal's Yard Remedies for their many helpful products, tweeting, "Blissed out with @NYR_Official supplies - from candles at the birth to Baby Balm for his skin - organic, gorgeous and nurturing."
In the last several years, several studies have been held regarding the safety, for both the mother and the child, in regard to home births. Unfortunately, the reports have been inconsistent.
In 2009, it was claimed in a report by the British Journal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology that for low-risk women, there was no increase in perinatal mortality from hospital births to home births, given the presence of well-trained midwives and quick access to hospitals.
In 2012, a study was held in Oregon, which found that the rate of infant death was 0.6 deaths per thousand births for hospital births, while the infant death rate in home births was 4.8 deaths per thousand, which was a significant increase.
Booker Jombe Parker joins big sisters, Ripley, 13, and Nico, 8.
