Evelyn Lozada is currently engaged and expecting her first child with fiancé Chad Crawford, of the Los Angeles Dodgers, but just years ago, she worried that she may never find happiness.
"I had the worst 2012, I thought my life was over," Lozada revealed to Life & Style on Feb. 20.
In 2012, Lozada wed Chad Ochocinco after two years of dating, but the excitement of becoming a wife quickly came to a startling halt when Lozada was the victim of an assault at the hands of her new husband.
On Aug. 11, 2012, just over a month after their July 4 wedding, Ochocinco was arrested and charged with domestic battery after head butting his wife during an argument for which he was later sentenced to 30 days in jail (although he also served seven days).
Three days later, Lozada filed for divorce.
"It happened so publicly, and then the passing of my brother-in-law," Lozada recalls. "But that entire incident [with Chad] led me to where I'm at now. I would say my broken bridge led me to happiness. If I had to do it again, I would because I truly feel complete right now in my life and I wouldn't change it for anything."
Following her heartbreak with Ochocinco, Lozada, who stars on VH1's Basketball Wives, went on to find love with Crawford, but didn't immediately go public with their relationship. Instead, she kept things private until after she revealed that she was pregnant in Nov. 2013. Once her baby news was out, Lozada waited a week before revealing that Crawford was her partner.
"He came into my life at a perfect time. Everything that happened makes me appreciate him 1,000 times more and he also makes me a better person," Lozada said of her man. "I appreciate everyone and I think God every day for my life.... I'm really lucky and really, really blessed."
