Shayne Lamas is out of her medically induced coma and speaking out for the first time since suffering a tragic miscarriage after collapsing at her Southern California home earlier this month.
"Thank you for all your thoughts and prayers. I've cried reading the expression of generosity and warmth from everyone," Lamas said in a statement to Us Weekly on Thurs., Feb. 20. "I'm out of ICU at Mission Viejo Hospital. I cannot thank the medical staff here enough for not giving up on me."
After collapsing on Feb. 10, Lamas was rushed to the hospital where doctors took her into emergency surgery and placed her into a coma, at which time, she lost her baby. After a few days, Lamas appeared to be progressing, but once again gave her family a scare when her heart gave out on Valentine's Day.
"Thank you to my father and his wife, my mother, my sisters, my grandmother and New York family, my husband's family, and to my husband for never leaving my side," Lamas continued. "Nik, your strength can never be measured. I love you."
Also in her statement, Lamas encouraged everyone to donate blood and paid her respects to her miscarried son.
"To everyone out there, please donate blood. You can save a life like mine," she explained, signing off, "In loving memory of my son, Rex Jagger Lamas-Richie."
Following the child's death, Richie chose to hold his son for closure and name him, saying that he's always wanted a son named Rex. The middle name, Jagger, came from his love of musician Mick Jagger.
