Colin Farrell may be one of the sexiest men in Hollywood, but at one point, the act of sex was quite "terrifying" for him. In a new interview with Elle Magazine, Farrell is opening up about sex after sobriety.
"I made love to a woman about two and half years after I got clean, and it was one of the most terrifying moments of my life," he recalled in the magazine's March issue. "It was in the afternoon. The windows and the curtains were open. It was lovely. She was very gentle. But it was terrifying. Because I was just used to drunkenness and dark rooms and clubs and toilets and wherever."
Farrell has been sober for eight years now. After checking into rehab in Dec. 2005, he was concerned that his bedroom commentary wouldn't be up to be par. His skills, however, weren't pulled into question. "I worried I wouldn't be able to talk, full stop," Farrell explained. "I hadn't uttered a word sober in about 15 years."
Once Farrell left rehab in Jan. 2006, he made it a point to remain sober, mainly so that he could be a better father to his son, James Padraig Farrell, who was born in 2003.
"I knocked that on the head, I haven't had a drop in six months," Farrell said of his addiction to alcohol during a July 2006 appearance on The Late Show With David Letterman. "It was tough. It was something that I did every day for about fifteen years."
"I was just juggling so many things. I've been on such a mad trip for six or seven years, that I just had to step back and have a look at my life," he continued. "Having my son, as well, was the primary reason. I just wanted to be there for him. I wanted to be clear, be around him, and remember being with him."
In Oct. 2009, Farrell welcomed a second son, Henry Tadeusz Farrell, with his Ondine costar Alicja Bachleda-Curuś. Six months later, their relationship ended. However, Farrell continued with his sobriety and remains a big part of both the lives of his two children.
