Shayne Lamas and her husband Nik Richie have suffered a great loss.
Just months into Lamas' second pregnancy, The Bachelor winner experienced a medical emergency which resulted in her collapsing at her and Richie's Orange County home.
Immediately, Lamas was rushed to the hospital, and when she arrived, doctors determined that she had been bleeding internally around her uterus - and that emergency surgery was the only option.
Sadly, as TMZ reports, Lamas lost the baby and was left in a coma, but although Lamas is currently unable to breath on her own, doctors are "optimistic about her recovery."
At the hospital with Lamas is her father, Lorenzo Lamas, and her husband, Richie.
In a statement to TMZ on Feb. 10, Richie said, "Shayne had life-saving emergency surgery. She is on a ventilator system and is in a sedation-induced coma. Her vital signs are now currently stable."
The child lost would have been the second for Shayne and Nik. Their first child, Press Dahl Lamas-Richie was born in Nov. 2011.
Last month, Nik confirmed that he and Shayne were expecting, saying in a blog post, "Both Shayne and I are super excited for our second child. I've grown so much as a father and Shayne is an amazing mother. Together we are a great team and love each other very much."
Later in the day on Friday, Lamas' father issued a statement to Us Weekly, confirming that Lamas has since come out of her coma.
"We are so grateful that my daughter, Shayne Lamas-Richie, is conscious and stable. She is not in a coma, however she did miscarry the child she was carrying," he said. "We are so very grateful to the hospital personnel and the doctors who saved her life last night. Shayne is aware of her condition and that her family and her husband are here with her and love her so much. She will be remaining in the hospital until her doctors determine that she can be released."
