Molly Sims may appear to be one of the most fit women in the entertainment business, but even she struggled to get her body back after having a baby. After gaining nearly 65 lbs. while pregnant with her son Brooks Alan, Sims had to work hard to get back in shape -- especially since she was dealing with a thyroid condition at the time.
“It’s been 19 months!” Sims told PEOPLE Magazine on Jan. 23 of her journey to get her body back. “It was hard work. It was hard work for almost 13, 14 months because of my thyroid issue, but once I knew what it was I got it under control.”
During her pregnancy, Sims discovered that her weight gain was actually the result of a problem with her thyroid. Luckily, Sims' condition was quickly diagnosed and with the help of medication, diet, and exercise, Sims was able to get her pre-baby body back in no time.
However, Sims has taken a bit of an unconventional approach to weight loss. Instead of going hard in the gym, she has been focusing more on her diet and has actually chosen to take it easy when it comes to her fitness regimen.
“I know this is going to sound weird, but I’m actually exercising a little bit less, and watching what I eat a little bit more,” she said. “I find that sometimes I can over-exercise, where it actually makes me hungrier, to the point where I’m starving! So, I’ve been trying to cut back.”
Although Sims has taken a step back from the gym, she does get plenty of cardio at home. Not only is Sims busy with her 19-month-old son, she's also busy with her husband, film producer Scott Struber.
“It’s still something you have to maintain,” she explained. “We’re starting on baby number two, so you have to keep it going.”
