Johnny Depp And Amber Heard Are Engaged

Johnny Depp and Amber Heard are taking the next step in their relationship. The pair, who first met on the set of The Rum Diaries in 2012, became engaged "a while ago," and earlier this week, Heard went public with her engagement ring.

Heard was spotted with a diamond on her left ring finger while dining at West Hollywood's Ago Restaurant on Tuesday, Jan. 14, and ever since, rumors have been swirling that she and Depp are engaged. Then, on Friday, the rumors were confirmed by a source close to the couple.

"The proposal happened a while ago," an insider told Us Weekly on Jan. 17. "She just didn't wear the ring."

During Tuesday night's outting, Heard was seen first covering her reported engagement ring with her right hand, but later, she let it shine as she shielding her face from the flashes of paparazzi cameras with her left hand.

On Thursday, Celebuzz first reported on the engagement news.

“It happened on Christmas Eve,” a source close to the family told the site. “Amber really took her time to make up her mind.”

According to the site, this wasn't the first time that Depp had requested Heard's hand in marriage, which is why she thought long and hard about making the commitment.

“She turned him down before,” added the source, “before she said yes. So she waited and was thinking about it for a long time.”

While Depp and Heard have kept their relationship private, aside from a few red carpet appearances together, Heard did speak of the hardships of balancing her busy career with her personal life in an interview on Nov. 9, 2013.

"It is really hard when you spend your life living out of a suitcase," said Heard. "But it really does weed out superficial people - if someone is still with you after the second movie then they are probably a good one. I like to trust people in general - it is the Southern girl in me."
