Most women have dreadful experiences during their menopause but not Emma Thompson. The veteran actress is even grateful for having menopause because of the extremely cold weather that NYC is experiencing. The 54-year-old actress admitted that she is going through menopause and revealed her sentiments while she received the best actress award for Saving Mr. Banks at the National Board Review on Tuesday, Jan. 7, reported People.
Thompson added that she has been comfortable due to her hot flashes amidst the low temperature due to a polar vortex of moving cold air into the East Coast.
"It's such a cold night and it's the only time I've actively been grateful for menopause," the actress said. "I've been entirely comfortable."
There is one thing that the award-winning actress isn't grateful for: having to wear high heels. She even asked about the point of wearing them.
"Why do we wear them?" she questioned the people in the audience. "They're so painful and pointless, really. I would really like to urge everyone to stop it. Just stop it. Don't wear them anymore."
The actress has been getting excellent reviews for her performance in Saving Mr. Banks. However, the Oscar-winner said that she should not be singled out as there are many great roles for women these days in the entertainment industry.
"It's been an extraordinary year for women's roles. I can't think what gave me the edge," she said. "It must have been the perm, which was a great sacrifice. It meant no sex [with my husband, British actor Greg Wise] for months on end."
