Kanye West has taken the Grammy's to task for only nominating him twice this year.
West released his Yeezus album this past summer to critical acclaim. It was widely believed that he would be a front runner at the 56th Annual Grammys. However, when the nominations were announced last Friday, West was snubbed from the major categories. He was only nominated for Best Rap Album and Best Rap Song, for "New Slave".
On Tuesday evening during a show in Phoenix, Arizona, West blasted the snub. He interrupted his Yeezus concert to vent.
"Yeezus is the top one or two album on every single list, but only gets two nominations from the Grammys," he said. "What are they trying to say?"
West also believed that his race played a factor in why he was not nominated for even more awards.
"I'm 36-years-old and I have 21 Grammys," he began. "That's the most Grammys of any 36-year-old. Out of all those 21 Grammys, I've never won a Grammy against a white artist. Now let's bring it back to the Michael Jackson days when he couldn't get his video to be played because he was 'urban.' So when the Grammy nominations come out and 'Yeezus' is the top one or two album on every single list, but only gets two nominations from the Grammys," he said.
West declared that he did not want to be congratulated on the two nominations he received this year. In fact, he did not even want the recognition.
"F*CK those nominations! It's all but only patronizing. It's only patronizing. Don't patronize me. ... I would have rather had NO nominations," he blasted.
