Amy Robach diagnosis of breast cancer was devastating for her and has put an immense strain on her life. She talked about her cancer battle on Good Morning America on Thursday, Dec. 5.
"I am feeling really good," Robach, 40, told anchors Robin Roberts, George Stephanopoulos and Josh Elliot.
"Physically, I feel remarkably well. Mentally, it's another challenge because that was phase one ... that's the first step... but mentally I think is the toughest part of this."
"There are days where if you really start to let your mind wander, it's really devastating."
In an interview with People magazine, she shared about the time her doctor told her the results and how she's doing. She even admitted that after she heard that she had breast cancer, she "burst into tears."
The 40-year-old GMA revealed that she wanted to be aggressive in her treatment by having a double mastectomy. "I made the choice to have the double mastectomy, and for me it felt like the right choice and it turned out to be the right choice," she said.
"I want to be at my daughter's graduations, their weddings. I want to hold my grandkids. That just becomes your focus," Andrew Shue's wife told People magazine.
"It's going to be a crappy year, and then I'll be on drugs for probably the next 10 years and there are other issues down the road that we're discussing and we're dealing with. It's about being vigilant and taking care of myself," she said about her treatment plan.
Robach also revealed that she had 13 lymph nodes removed after it was discovered that the cancer has spread there as well. "That was the most pain. The breast surgery was painful, but there was nothing like the pain that my arm felt."
She remains optimistic about her health and said that the next step would be chemotherapy that would start on Dec. 16.
