Fast & Furious actor Paul Walker died from "combined effects of traumatic and thermal injuries" in a car accident, the Los Angeles County coroner said on Wednesday, Dec. 4.

The 40-year-old actor was a passenger in a car accident on Saturday in Santa Clarita, California. The driver of the 2005 Porsche Carrera GT, Roger Rodas, died of multiple traumatic injuries, the coroner said.

Los Angeles County Assistant Chief Coroner Ed Winter told CNN that it was still unknown how long each an lived after the crash as the fire began. But this information may be included in the full autopsy reports.

The coroner ruled that both deaths were accidents. The surveillance video showed that the red Porsche crashed into a utility pole and burst into flames a minute later.

The toxicology reports on the bodies will be completed in six to eight weeks, the coroner's office added.

Production of the Fast & Furious 7 has been on hold for an unspecified period of time, ABC reported. The film was supposed to be released on July 11, 2014.

"At this time we feel it is our responsibility to shut down production on 'Fast & Furious 7' for a period of time so we can assess all options available to move forward with the franchise," Universal Pictures, a unit of Comcast Corp , said in a statement.

Before his death, the star plays the part of an unexpected father in the drama Hours. It is about a couple who rush to a New Orleans hospital after the wife of Walker's character goes into early labor. When the hurricane hit the city, Walker's character finds himself stranded in an evacuated hospital with his sick new-born daughter.

"We're not always our best, but so long as it's two steps forward to every one step back, you keep going," Walker said about his character in "Hours." "You're all right. Maybe it's two steps back every once in a while, but we get back up. It's that momentum. We try to sustain it, keep it rolling."
