Alec Baldwin blasted the "extreme" wing of the gay community for his show on MSNBC being axed, Us Weekly reported Tuesday.

Baldwin granted an interview to Gothamist about what led to his show, Up Late With Alec Baldwin, being canceled. The 55-year-old actor blamed activists for the decision. On Monday, MSNBC announced that his month old show would not be coming back after the actor hurled homophobic slurs to a photogragher last week.

Baldwin's rep initially stated that the actor did was unsure about continuing with the show, but his comments reflected that the decision was not ultimately his.

"You've got the fundamentalist wing of gay advocacy - Rich Ferraro and Andrew Sullivan - they're out there, they've got you," he said.

Ferraro is the spokesperson for GLADD while Sullivan is a popular blogger.

"Rich Ferraro, this is probably one of his greatest triumphs," Baldwin continued. "They killed my show."

However, Baldwin did recognize that his own behavior played a part in his show being pulled from the airwaves.

"I have to take some responsibility for that myself," he said.

Nonetheless, Baldwin said that he was not someone who was a homophobe. He denied ever accusing the slur that ignited this latest round of controversy.

"'F-----' is not the word that came out of my mouth," Baldwin said.
