Sharon Murphy has disputed claims that her daughter Brittany Murphy was murdered, The Hollywood Reporter reported Monday.
Sharon wrote an open letter addressing the controversy surrounding her daughter's December 2009 death at the age of 32. Angelo Bertolotti, Brittany's father, has gone to the media in the past few weeks insisting that Murphy was poisoned rather than dying of natural causes associated with phenomena. He has alleged that Brittany was targeted by government spies.
In her open letter, Sharon dismissed her ex's claims as a bid for attention. Sharon said that she has been in seclusion since her daughter's death but felt compelled to speak out now.
"I have no choice now but to come forward in the face of inexcusable efforts to smear my daughter's memory by a man who may be her biological father but was never a real father to her in her lifetime," Sharon wrote. "Angelo Bertolotti has relocated to California in his old age to claim he is here for Brittany, as he never was in life. He has made outrageous statements over the past few years, culminating in this latest madness: that my darling daughter was murdered."
Sharon also stated that Brittany did not want anything to do with Bertolotti when she was alive. Furthermore, Sharon doubted the authenticity of any lab results he may have had conducted.
"The lab Angelo used, if you can call it that, is an Internet site that farmed out the actual testing and then wrote horribly untrue things under the guise of "analysis." It mentioned rat poison as a possible cause and claimed to be able to say that a third party murdered my beloved daughter," she wrote.
