Barbara Walters has apologized to Roar singer Katy Perry, Us Weekly reported Tuesday.
Perry had opened up to Billboard that she felt "shaded" by the talk show host during the 2011 interview. She felt judged by the View Host. Walters apologized for any offense during Monday's airing of The View.
"Katy, if I made you feel at all unhappy, during a time when you were obviously unhappy, and I didn't know, I'm sorry," Walters said on The View Monday, Sept. 30. "But you can't always know!"
Walters chided Perry for being late to their sit down. Perry was a featured guest on Walters' 10 Most Fascinating People of 2011. "I shouldn't have done the interview," Perry said. "I was playing Madison Square Garden that same night, and I knew that the end of my marriage was coming. I was just exhausted and stressed."
Perry had altered others that she would be running late but Walters showed up for their interview at the agreed time.
"When I got there, I apologized immediately, but then she said to me, 'You know, I've only ever waited for one other person this long, and you know who that person was? Judy Garland. You know how she turned out, right?' I was like, 'Oh, snap! Yes, bitch!'" Perry said.
Perry is now able to look at that particular moment with some measure of amusement.
"I think it's the coolest thing that Barbara Walters shaded me," Perry added. "I just couldn't tell her as we were sitting down for a mega-interview, 'Hey, my marriage is falling apart. Give me a break.'"
