Larry Hagman's son expressed his "disappointment" with the tribute the Primetime Emmy Awards offered to his father, The Hollywood Reporter reported Monday.
Preston Hagman said that his father was a "trailblazer" and deserved more recognition than he received at the September 21 telecast. Cory Monteith, James Gandolfini, Jean Stapleton, Jonathan Winters and Gary David Goldberg were remembered with stand alone tributes. However, Hagman and many others were not and a controversy erupted over the perceived slight.
"How I felt last night watching [the Emmys] was not anger, it was disappointment," Preston told Entertainment Tonight.
Preston explained his feelings on the matter. He tried to be diplomatic while insisting that the Dallas was a trailblazer.
"I think if they're gonna do a memorial for the Emmys, I think that they should spend more time on that segment," he said. "I think the total of the Emmy segment was probably 20 minutes that they did. So if they're gonna do it, they should do it all. If they're not going to do it, then do it all the same. At the same time, I understand it's very hard for the Emmys to choose what they want," Preston said.
Hagman died Nov. 23 while filming the updated Dallas and was previously nominated twice in the 1980's but did not win an Emmy.
