Lady Gaga performed her new single, Applause, on Good Morning America Monday.
Gaga is known for her memorable performances but according to MTV, she added a twist to her live rendition of Applause. She paid tribute to the 1939 movie, Wizard of Oz. Gaga dressed as Dorothy and her real life dog stood in as Toto. She then began to sing lines from the musical and switched into a Glenda the witch. She then explained to GMA why she decided to pay homage to the Wizard of Oz.
"I think it really is an explanation, in a way, for my entire career so far, even with the VMAs performance and then the transformations that were happening today," she said. "It's like my way of saying all of these outfits and all of these wigs that I have been changing in all of these years, this is my way of assimilating and this is my way of surviving. This is my way of getting to Oz, of getting to Oz to have all my dreams come true."
Gaga 's third studio album, Artpop, is due Nov. 11. She shared her excitement about the disc during her recent iTunes festival performances in England.
"I think every person in their life goes through so many different things. I was going through a hard time with Born This Way. I was kind of insecure," she explained. "I became a star really quickly and I didn't really have time to really put my feet in the ground and have a sense of myself through it all 'cause it's like a machine and you just keep going."
