Simon Cowell: 'X Factor' Judge Feels 'Very Paternal'

Simon Cowell has opened up about becoming a father in an interview with The Times of London that was published Monday.

The X Factor judge was overwhelemed when he saw a sonogram of his first child. He is expecting a child with 35-year-old socialite Lauren Silverman.  lLauren was previously married to Cowell's close friend, Andrew. He filed for divorce in July, alleging that the two had an affair with his then-wife. Their separation was finalized in August. Since then, Lauren and Cowell have come out as a couple.

The Brit said that his paternal feelings came to the surface after seeing his unborn baby. He was overcome with emotion.

"I went to see a scan today and it is just surreal. You literally see this thing which is now alive moving around. I feel very paternal right now. So, I am very happy," he said.

However, Cowell was quick to note that he was not about to undergo a personality overhaul. The music executive has made a career of being abrasive and quick to the point. He said those traits would remain even though he is the happiest he has ever been in life.

"I can assure you: I won't go soft," he said.
