Sandra Oh has decided to leave Grey's Anatomy after the upcoming 10th season, The Hollywood Reporter confirmed Tuesday.

Oh has played Cristina Yang since the ABC serial's 2005 inception. She explained her decision to leave as one being motivated by creativity or lack thereof. Oh felt that she had done all that she could in the role and that it was now time to move on to new challenges.

"It's such an interesting thing to play a character for so long and to actually get the sense that she wants to be let go as well. [Cristina] wants to be let go, and I am ready to let her go. We have to start the process, story-wise, for the Grey's writers to think of why she's going to go," Oh said.

Oh began to contemplate leaving Grey's Anatomy in May 2012. At the time, she signed a contract for two more years. However, Oh said that she went to therapy over the decision to leave the show that helped make her a household name. She cried over final decision to depart the series.

"I started thinking about it because I had to prepare myself. I gave myself two years to emotionally let go. At the end of last season, Shonda took me aside and said, 'What are your thoughts?' I said, 'I'm ready.'"
