In the picture, the 27-year-old pop superstar is seen with her face smeared with red, blue, white and yellow paint. The image was taken from her the music video which will accompany the single that is set to premiere Aug. 19.
Last week, MTV announced the singer as their first performer for the upcoming MTV Music Awards which will be held Aug. 25 at the Barclay Center in Brooklyn, N.Y. Gaga’s performance will be her first in months. She was forced to cancel her Born This Way Ball Tour in February after suffering a hip injury which required surgery.
Gaga explained to Women’s Wear Daily in their new issue about the extent of her injuries.
“I had a tear on the inside of my joint and a huge breakage. The surgeon told me that if I had done another show I might have needed a full hip replacement. I would have been out at least a year, maybe longer,” she said.
Gaga also said why she chose Applause to kick off her comeback and the art behind it. Applause is the lead single from ArtPop which is due in stores Nov. 11.
"When I look at it I see that there is a longing for the applause. I see that there is a void that is leaking onstage, that the performer is leaking, that the art is sort of becoming something else in front of your eyes. Something more human, something more honest,” she said.
