Former American Idol judge Kara DioGuardi announced that she and her husband Mike McCuddy will be having their first child via a surrogate.
DioGuardi disclosed the information in People Magazine interview on Wednesday. The singer and her husband have been struggling to have children since their marriage in 2009. The couple struggled with infertility and they tried numerous methods including in vitro fertilization but nothing seemed to work. The decision was made to attempt to have the child through a gestational surrogate, meaning that the child's genetics will be made of DioGuardi's eggs and McCuddy's sperm.
"We made a personal decision to try with a surrogate," DioGuardi told People. "I asked someone we knew, a friend. And on the first try it worked."
Greyson James Carroll McCuddy will be welcomed into the world in a few weeks and the proud parents are very excited for his arrival.
The former "Idol" judge has been busy since leaving the show. She served as judge on "Platinum Hit" on Bravo and starred in "Chicago" on Broadway portraying Roxie Hart. She also taught a class at Berklee College of Music in Boston called "Hitmaking with Kara DioGuardi."
